Among the many visitors, both famous and less so, was the German writer Ernst Jünger, who deeply loved the island of San Pietro, describing it in the 1950s as a timeless place, characterized by solitude and unspoiled nature. In his book "San Pietro" (1957), the German writer celebrates the landscape, the culture of Carloforte, and the island's "anarchic" and wild atmosphere.

The book "San Pietro" is a travel diary recounting his experiences on the island, characterized by a philosophical style and evocative descriptions. Jünger described the island as one of the few places in Europe capable of offering a profound sense of refuge, solitude, and detachment from modernity. For the writer, the island of San Pietro represents a step towards anarchy, a place where the rules of the continent are loosened. Jünger was fascinated by the natural beauty of the island, as well as that of all of Sardinia, which he visited several times, and which he described as a land suspended between myth and reality.
