Poecylia

Poecylia is a dream come true. This dream began in the 1970s, when Piero Giaculli arrived for the first time in Carloforte, on San Pietro's island , and he decided to buy some ruins to subsequently create his "buen retiro", his private retreat.

Surrounded by Mediterranean macchia (maquis) – rosemary, myrtle, rockrose, strawberry plant, eucalyptus, cactus, agave – and by the typical vegetation of the island, Poecylia is located in a big private property, only for our guests, in the old mining hamlet of Becco, where cormorants, queen’s falcons, and wild rabbits live. Here the cliffs, plummeting dramatically into the sea, create a wild coast with a very suggestive gulf full of small coves reachable with difficult by land.

This protected natural oasis is the most pristine area of San Pietro's island.

In the house and in its architecture, Piero's multiple life experiences have harmoniously merged: his trips, his works as an artist and as a photographer, his adventures as diver, his encounters with famous artists and divers from all over the world. The colours and the cultures of the other countries, that most influenced him, are also clearly present here: Greece, Mexico, the Caribbean, Africa, Japan and the unforgettable and unrepeatable Italy of the end of the 1960s and the beginning of the 1970s, which is now more part of myth than of history, where Piero lived among Greece and the Aeolian islands, Capri and Procida, Rome and Naples, his native city.

A unique radiant place was created. It is not an hotel…  It is not a bed and breakfast...
Poecylia is like a tiny gem, where moments of silence, meditation, relax and regeneration can be enjoyed, far from urban stress, in contact with the energy of the Nature...The different and magic World of Poecylia is not suitable for everyone....sometimes it can even be not recommended to everyone.

Poecylia is a place of timeless beauty, cult exclusive retrait far away from the routes of summer and usual tourism.
Poecylia is an ideal place to find oneself.

To encourage a return to a more primitive life, at Poecylia many of the usual modern comforts are missing: inside the rooms there is no TV, no mini-fridge, no air conditioning. Each room, charmingly furnished, is naturally cool and opens on the terrace  which embraces the house,  with its coloured bouganvilles, in front of the marvellous maquis garden.

In the living room, the library is available for our guests, to enjoy relaxing reading moments.
Poecylia's guests can reach, on foot, through an easy footpath in the nature, to a small, wonderful, pristine and rocky beach, otherwise reachable only by boat. From here it's possible enjoy swimming or snorkeling to  other little bays around.
In a small living room, very early in the morning, a pleasant small breakfast is offered, to begin the day, while a buffet breakfast/brunch, with organic food, is served open-air, till late in the morning, in the big living room in front of the gorgeous  view to the sea.

The part facing the bay is an area of incomparable beauty; it is the ideal place to enjoy the last lights of the day and to admire, in the darkness of the night, the stupendous celestial vault.
