The Resort
Poecylia is a dream come true. This dream began in the 1980s when Piero Giaculli happened for the first time on the island of San Pietro and immediately decided to buy some ruins to subsequently create his "buen retiro" - good retreat.
Surrounded by Mediterranean macchia (maquis) – Rosemary, myrtle, rockrose, strawberry plant, eucalyptus, cactus, agave – and by the vegetation typical of the island, Poecylia is located in the district of Becco, where sea crows, Eleonora's falcons, and wild rabbits live and where the cliffs plummeting dramatically into the sea create a wild coast with a very suggestive gulf full of small coves reachable with difficulty by land.
It is the most pristine area of the island of San Pietro.
In the house and in its architecture Piero's multiple life experiences have harmoniously merged: his trips, his works as an artist and as a photographer, his adventures as a skin-diver, his encounters with famous artists and skin-divers from all over the world. The colors and the cultures of the countries which have most influenced him are also clearly present here: Greece, Mexico, The Caribbean, Africa, Japan and the unforgettable and unrepeatable Italy of the end of the 1960s and the beginning of the 1970s which is now more part of myth than of history where Piero lived between Capri and the Aeolian islands, Rome and Naples, his native city.
A unique radiant place has been created where moments of relaxation can be enjoyed far from urban stress: an ideal place for finding oneself.
To encourage a return to a more primitive life, at Poecylia many of the usual modern comforts are missing: inside the rooms there is no TV, no mini-fridge, no air conditioning. Each room, charmingly furnished, opens on a small terrace surrounded by the marvellous maquis garden which embraces the house. In a small living room from the first hours of the morning a pleasant small breakfast to begin the day is offered, while in the big living room with a view of the sea a buffet breakfast/brunch is served until noon.
The part facing the bay is an area of incomparable beauty; it is the ideal place to enjoy the last lights of the day and to admire, in the darkness of the night, the stupendous celestial vault.
